The Gift of An Ordinary Weekend #12

Let me pretend that I don’t have backlogs and blog about last weekend.

Something funny happened in the office last Friday. I had this nagging headache the whole day. Silly me, I only thought of taking a medicine by 3:30PM. So I went to the office clinic and asked for a pill. By 4:30PM, my eyes felt weird. When I looked at the mirror, my eyelids looks 3x larger than usual. I did not mind it until my friends told me to go the clinic ASAP because the allergy could go down my throat and lungs. When the nurse saw my eyes, she told me that I need an anti-histamine shot pronto. After the injection, she said I should stay because the med will make me groggy and sleepy. I have taken  anti histamine meds and decongestants before. Those medicines had warnings that they cause drowsiness but I never felt that effect on me. I told the nurse that I had an important meeting. It is not everyday when 3 directors from ops go to our office to specifically talk to me so I really can’t miss that meeting. By the time I arrived in my workstation, my eyes have worsen, the directors were there already and the drowsiness is in full effect! That was the closest that I have even been to being high on drugs. In fairness to me, I was able to present a 15 slide powerpoint impromptu while fighting the sleepiness.

Saturday started with a movie. Because Aki loves the Cloudy with Chances of Meatballs book, we bought the DVD. Turns out, the story of the movie is way different from that of the book. Thanks to the movie, Aki now dreams of being an inventor. Here is the Sabog Robot that he invented. You just need to press a green button so it will start cleaning the house. Why the name Sabog Yowbot? I don’t know either.

In the afternoon, after our daddy came back from his jujitsu training, off we went to our favorite mall, Waltermart/MCS. Aki had his Moving Up Day last week and even got a glamorized Most Talkative Award, so we wanted to give him a reward —- his first movie house experience. The movie did not start for an hour so we went Timezone, my boys’ idea of heaven. We are glad to report that they have fixed their GogoBalls game. There is a new game that Franco and I like. My highest score in the target shooting is 97/100 (7 perfect shots out of 10). Franco’s is 99.

We prepared Aki for his first movie by telling him what to expect. We told him that there will be really really big TV and that the room will be really really dark. To make him more comfortable, we bought lots of food. We had bread from Pande Manila, hotdog sandwiches and nachos. Aki was brave the whole time. My only concern is that he kept asking questions. I don’t think the other people were bothered since their kids were not quiet either.

We went to the supermarket to buy corn kernels for my corn experiment, snacks for Ate Dorina’s kids (Ate left for Quezon yesterday. My fingers and toes are crossed that she will be back on Sunday). To our dismay, Waltermart has stopped selling our favorite hotdog brand. Grrrr! That I think was the lowlight of the past weekend. If any of you guys know where we can buy Mother’s Best hotdogs, do let me know.

Dinner was at Ed’s house. Ed is Franco’s bestfriend since their high school days and is one of our 5 wedding bestmen. We wanted to stay longer but Aki who did not nap the whole day, was terribly cranky. Eat and run as we like to call it.

We dropped Aki off with Ate Dorina. Franco and I capped the night with a massage at Dona Soledad Wellness Center (Thanks, Macy, for the reco!).

The next day, Aki had a makeover c/o the neighborhood barber. Kuya Doods has been cutting his hair since he was a baby. But before we left the house, Aki invented a new game.

From crazy long…

Aki’s very words as I was taking this picture – Happy Family Day!

9:10AM He got my spray bottle of homemade pesticide and danced and sprayed it all over while saying “Iz raining! Iz raining!”

9:55AM Aki and I love this chalkboard book. Thank you, Jacob’s mom! This book is the reason why we have less scratch papers and why Aki is getting better at writing numbers. I think I will bring this book on our next long trip to keep Aki entertained.

10:35AM Aki found two belts and managed to make it look like a dog’s leash

10:58AM One of our favorite bonding activities nowadays is taking pictures of each other’s silly and funny faces

12:37PM Yey! My pork ribs in paprika tomato sauce was a success! Couldn’t wait for our daddy to try it!

1:17PM While waiting for our daddy, Aki found the bamboo sticks in the garden and played with it. The bamboo stick transformed into ninja sticks, a magic wand and a flying broom.

2:03PM Finally, Dadeh’s home! Off topic: Are you also rooting for Daddy’s Home in XFactor? As soon as he came in, Franky invited Aki to play in the rain. I was too KJ to join.

2:37PM While Franco and I were enjoying the ribs, Aki lay down on the floor and slept.

An hour later, his temperature went up! Yikes! I felt so guilty for letting him play in the rain. Good thing, we always have paracetamol and Iburofen in the ref.

An Exceptionally Great Friday

Last Friday was exceptionally great. There are days when I question myself  if I am a good enough mother, wife and employee. Last Friday was not one of those days.

I started the day by eating a yummy mooncake. Isn’t it pretty? I wonder how it’s made.

It was a gift from Peter, one of my recent Mandarin-speaking hires. Thank you so much, Peter! Even without the mooncake, I enjoyed every bit of our unscheduled 3-hour job offer.

There are several reasons why I work late on Fridays. One of them is so I can spend more time with Aki in the morning. Aki has been going to school since June and I have only seen him wear his school uniform once. Last Wednesday, Ate Dorina told me that during the trip to school, Aki kept saying to his classmate ” Mommy mo, hatid you! Mommy mo, hatid you!” He was so happy for his classmate.  Last Friday, I surprised Aki by bringing him to school myself.

PS I bought the shirt in Divi for only 75 bucks.

Then off to work I went. It was a productive day, job offer and interview-wise. I realize that I should go on later shifts more often since more applicants are available to talk in the evening. I was in the zone! All I wanted to do was talk talk talk and talk. I even got an email from our clients that made me smile for the next two days.  Before I knew it, it was already 10:30PM and I had 3 missed calls from Franco.

When we are not too tired, Friday nights are our date nights. We went around Makati to look for an interesting place to eat in. We did two rounds in the Valero/Salcedo area but could not find a dining place that was not expensive, noisy and smoker-friendly. Finally, we found  New Bombay but when were about to order, we were informed that they will be closing soon and will only accept take out orders. We ended up eating jumbo siopao from 7-11. That Fridate, we learned something new about each other. Franco always goes for asado siopao while I always order bola-bola. We are so meant to be. haha. I know, walang connect.

I look like a lemur here. My excuse is that this pic was taken at 12AM. Continue reading “An Exceptionally Great Friday”

Productive, balanced Sunday

How I wish every weekend would be just like last weekend – productive, balanced and relaxing. I was able to do the things that I wanted to do. I spent quality time with Franco, with Aki, with Franco and Aki and with myself.

I blogged already about last Saturday. What I did not mention is that Franco and I got to watch Avatar that night, finally!

Sunday was just as great.

We started the day with a visit from our favorite neighbors Chloe and Margaux. Here is Margaux playing with the bubble making dino toy with got from Saizen.

In between watering the plants, picking flowers and stopping Aki from tearing down the towers his Ates made, I was able to trace, cut and outline animals for my storage plastic box make over project.

When Franco woke up, he brought Aki to my in laws’ house down the block. This gave me time to tape and glue the animal cut outs to the toy box. Feeling very proud of my accomplishment, I started a new one – pom poms for the second playroom. My boys came back right after I finished. Two craft projects in one morning! Naks!

It was 12:15PM already and we haven’t cooked anything yet. I promised Franco earlier that day that we will play with my bento tools for lunch. We did not have time because we were already hungry. We opened two cans of tuna, cooked it a bit and mixed in taco seasoning. We then sliced tomatoes and onions, grated some cheese and made garlic sauce using the 88 pesos garlic press from Japan Home. Lastly, we heated the tortillas that have been in the freezer for more than a month. Put them all together and what do we have? Tuna soft tacos in 10 minutes! I forgot to take pictures because we were busy eating. But here is a pic of Aki loving his toasted tortilla.

After lunch, Manang helped me hung the pom poms and the final details on the wall.

When we were done, this is how the 2nd playroom looked like.
