Christmas In February

aka my Valentine’s Day gift for Aki

I finally chanced upon a copy of You are my Miracle in Booksale. I am in love with Mary Causano’s first book, You are my I Love You. I blogged about it here. So, when I learned that she came up with a second book, I knew I had to have a copy.

You are My Miracle by Maryann Cusimano Love
I am your parent;
 you are my child.
I am your quiet place;
 you are my wild

I am your hot cocoa;
 you are my marshmallow.
I am your nutcracker;
 you are my cookie dough.

I am your gingerbread;
 you are my frosting goo.
I am your paper;
 you are my glitter and glue.

I am your wrapping;
 you are my surprise.
I am your don’t peek;
 you are my wide eyes.

I am you bundle up;
 you are my dash outside.
I am your uphill pull;
 you are my fast sleigh ride.

Valentine’s Day Drink and Egg

More food play  in honor of St. Valentine.

This was my afternoon drink.

I finally got to use the cute ice cube molds that I bought from Saizen mid last year.

This was protein component of Aki’s lugaw that he refused to look at.

Valentine’s Day Breakfast

Hello! Love is truly in the air. Unfortunately for me, in our house, aside from love, we also have virus in the air. My poor little valentine has been vommiting since yesterday. I am taking a leave today so I can look after him. This is one of those days when I wish we’d win the Lotto so I don’t need to work.

Anyhoot, before he wakes up, let me post our Valentine  creations last Saturday.

Here is my take on the egg-in-a-hole recipe that I read in Yummy a few years back.

Well, there are a lot of things that could go wrong:
1. Your favorite brand of whole wheat bread is out of stock for two days.
2. Your bread is too small or your cookie cutter is too big. I just made a heart using a knife.
3. Your egg is too big for the hole, making egg whites spill over.
4. The egg yolk breaks
5. The bread is burnt but the egg is not yet thoroughly cooked.

After several attempts, here is our early valentine day breakfast.

To make hearts out of ketchup, just make two dots and use a toothpick, in my case, I used the tip of Aki’s new paintbrush, to draw the pointed end.

Now for the hearts that I cut from the bread using the cookie cutter ( I was not able to use the hole-d bread because the sides were too thin), I had a simple painting activity for Aki using water and  food color. Continue reading “Valentine’s Day Breakfast”

Books for my little valentine

Since love is in the air, these are books that I have been reading to Aki..

I love this book because everytime I read this it feels like I am reading my diary. In my favorite page, it says  I love you when you’re happy and grinning from ear to ear. In the picture, you will see the toddler fox happily eating his mom’s choco chip cookies. This reminds me of how focused and extremely happy Aki is everytime he eats the cookies I bake. The expression is so priceless that it makes me want to stay home and bake all day.

This book helped me teach Aki about body parts. Thanks to this book, Aki now points to our ears, nose, eyes, tongue and hair when asked.

Of the many books that we bought for Aki, this one is by far my ultimate favorite. I got so touched by it that I cried mommy happy tears while reading it for the first time inside the bookstore. The little boy in this book asks his mom if he will still love him if he was something else,  a gorilla, an bug-eating alien, dangerous alligator, swamp monster etc. The mom’s answers are all amusing and shows just how deep and unwavering a mother’s love can be.  When the boy asked if his mommy will still love him if he were  big scary ape, the mother’s answer was “If you were a big scary ape, I would make  your birthday cake out of bananas  and I would tell you, I love you, my big scary ape”

happy heart’s day to the little one who makes my heart jump with joy, who picked a leaf and gave it to me, who dances with me as I sing out of tune upbeat love song. I love you my dear little darling baby valentine.
