Aki's Preschool Years · Akisms

I was so sleepy when I was writing this post the other night. It is only now, almost 2 days after, that I realized that instead of saving the draft, I posted it! Hahahaha.

Anyhoo, I am pleased to share that yesterday, Aki was one of the winners of the ¬†Best Halloween Costume Award in Franco’s office. Actually, we just placed second out of probably 150 kids and because I am biased, I don’t agree with the decision of the judges ūüėõ ¬†He was in character and was so talkative all the time. ¬†All. The. Time.

Here are some examples of his kadaldaldaldalan

After we waited for her for more than an hour, our beloved pedia arrived. As she walking towards us

Aki to doc: Tagaaaal (mo) naman!

He said it in a sweet way but still, I wanted to bury my head.

Aki: How old are you, Mummy?
Me: Thirty-one. I will be 32 in November.
Aki ( whispering): You know… when you are 32…. you are going to be a ninja like me.
Me: Oh really? You are a ninja.
Aki: Yes. I went to China and studied in the ninja school.
Me: Ok. I will go to that school too after my birthday
Aki: No adults allowed there. You go to the ninja office.

Aki: Sabi ni Darvin, pede pancit canton baon ko.
Me: Hinde. Ampalaya gusto mo?
Aki (suddenly had panic attacks): No! Noooooooooooooo! Nooo!

Aki: Itchy back!
I then did my motherly duty of scratching his back.

Aki: Higher.. higher… left please.
Me: I can’t reach that part.
Aki (lecture mode on): In our family, we don’t say “I can not”. REMEMBER?!!! Continue reading “Akisms”

My four year old son’s honesty, curiosity and innocence get me laughing or get us in trouble.

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for everyone
Thank you for our toys
Thank you for the prayers
Thank you for giving us something
I like you because you are good
I like you because you listen to me
Thank for you for everything I like
Jesus help me become a good boy every day
And super super super super huggy you (hugs himself, pretending he’s hugging Jesus)
What are the different kinds of clouds?

Aki: Daddy is wasting our time!
Me: Huh?
Aki: Because he loves us.
Me: Huh?!

Aki: I want to marry you but I am not an adult yet

During our writing drills….

Aki – I can’t do this!
Me: Yes, you can. Just do it. Don’t think about it too much.
Aki: How can I stop thinking? I have a brain, remember?!!!

Crying after he tripped….

Aki: I fell because the power of the armadillo did not work!!

Talking to his jujitsu instructor….

Aki: Excuse me. My brief is stuck to my pwet.

Talking to his dentist…

Aki: Excuse me, Doc. Are you kalbo?

Me – Aki, Tita Jana said you include her in your prayers

Aki – She’s your sister. You pray for her.

Me – I will but you should too.

Aki – Okaaaay, okaaaaaay. I will forget so you remember to make me not forget

In short, remind me. Another title in my resume — my son’s secretary.

Akisms at 4.5 years old

Mummy, I am a lover. You are a dreamer. And Daddy is a farter.

I had been asking Aki to go to the dining table and eat for like 4 times. He was happily busy playing with his toys and was pretending not to hear me. Can’t remember what he was playing with but I remember distinctly the sound effects that he was making.

Mummy (in my pretend angry tone) : Aki! I will count 1-5. If you are not here yet… One.. Two…

Aki rushed to the table.

Aki(excitedly): I am here na!!
Me: Thanks. Next time you listen to me right away. Let’s eat.
Aki (looks at his plate, obviously not happy with the food and suddenly changes his facial expression from excited to sad): Sorry, Mummy. I can’t eat because I am sad. I am so sad because your daddy died.

We never run out of excuses! Now he is using my dad’s death 30 years ago not to eat.

Aki: I want to make a card for Babita (Franco’s mom).
Me: She’ll love that! What is your message for her?
Aki: I love you Babita. I really really love you. Thank you, Babita. I love you more than Lolo Tay (Franco’s dad)

Aki just saw the 3D ultrasound picture of him when he was still in my tummy.

Aki: I was gold?

Family Day = Weekend; Office Day = Weekday

Aki:Is it family day today?
Me: No, today is Monday. It is an office day. Yesterday was family day.
Aki: Huwaaat?! It should be family day, family day, family day, office day office day, family day, family, family day

I have a surprise for you…
It is a secret…
It is in my school…
I can’t tell you…
It is a heart with many colors…
I will not tell you my secret…

Pre-Emily days

Me: My tummy hurts!
Aki (smiling ear to ear): Maybe there is a baby in your tummy!
Me: We have to go to the doctor to be sure
Aki (suddenly becomes concerned) Let’s not go to the doctor. Go to the toilet. I think it is just poopsie.

Mummy, when I grow up I want to be an adult…

Akisms @ 4

Aki: Lolo Jun is dead?

Me: Yup, he is dead. He died when I was only 2 years old. Tita Jana was only as small as baby Rya. Haaay. I have no daddy. Poor me.

Aki: It’s ok, Mom. You can borrow my daddy.

Me: Aki, I wish I don’t have to go to my office.

Aki (alarmed): Huh?! But, Mummy, your office friends miss you! They need you! I go to school and you go to office.

The Joy of Making Carrot Cupcakes

Oh what fun it was!

We made carrot cupcakes to celebrate Aki’s new interest in carrots. When he was younger, he would not touch his food if he saw a speck of any orange or green vegetables. Dear God heard my prayers and transformed my boy into a hearty eater. I really don’t know what happened last month. He suddenly started eating a lot and became open to trying out foods he used to hate.

I thought of making the baking activity more educational by using our weighing scale. Aki weighed the grated carrots first.

Then the sugar..

I took care of the flour while Ate melted the butter.¬† The next ingredients were the eggs. Since it was Aki’s first time to crack eggs, I told Ate to assist him while I take pictures. To our surprise, which was very evident in Ate’s reaction, my boy was a pro. Before Ate could get close, he tapped the egg on the edge of the bowl and cracked it open. Good job, bebeboy! And please don’t hate me Ate for posting this picture.

Aki was very much involved in the next steps. So involved that maybe at least half¬† a cup of our delicious carrot batter ended up in his stomach. Here, I am already pouring the batter into the muffin pan and he still won’t give up without a fight. He kept grabbing my hand and redirecting the spoon to his mouth.

After that difficult task, I transferred the pan to the oven. When I came back, this is what I saw
