Life is Good… 2014 Q3 Recap Part II

Part I here

Am thankful for the revival of social life. Haha. When Aki was smaller, I used to feel guilty when I spend time with friends. Now that Aki’s bigger and more independent, I am more comfy leaving him with his dad or Ate Doring. Besides, he has his own circle of friends. If he has a social life, I should have one too, right?

Reblogging from the MommyJuvs Blog: Liam Meets Aki

One of the topics that I find somewhat challenging to document are playdates. There are just so many things that I want to say but I can’t find the right words and pictures to tell the story. So…… I am reblogging Juvvy‘s post on our first ever meetup.

We met thru blogging about a year or 2 ago.  Juvvy has been sending thoughtful gifts all the way from Cebu. Am so glad we finally got the change to meet personally. Because of our blogs, we skipped the awkward introduction part and jumped right to the chika part. We read each others blogs so we both felt that already know each other.

Juvvy captured almost everything I want to remember about our first playdate. There are just 2 that she missed. One, she gave the sweetest giftssss. So sweet that Franco whispered to me that our gift for them looks so cheap compared to what we got. Haha. Two, Juvvy and I plus our our hubbies, were partially stunned when we looked at the prices on the menu. And it just showed that we were very comfortable with each other because we talked and laughed about the shock brought by the prices. That is something Franco and I almost never do with people we just met. Unfortunately, transferring to another resto was not an option because the kids and the parmesan cheese were inseperable.

It was so nice meeting you, Liam,Dino and Juvvy!
Thank you Tita Ninang Leah for taking our pictures

Oh yes!! At long last, we were able to meet Familia Kiki during the holidays when we were in Manila (yeah, this is another late post.  Sowee).  Leah, my SIL, was the one who introduced me to their blog, and  I got hooked to their site ever since.  I even wished that we’re neighbors. Hehe

With only a few days in Manila, I was glad that they are also available on the date we set.  I’ve let Maqui do the planning (Thanks Maqui! :)) as this was the first time Liam (we) will have a playdate.  We agreed to meet in Book Sale MCS, since it was books that made us bond on the first place.

Am doubly glad that Leah is also available and offered to be the photographer that day (Thanks Ninang!!). hehe  I will not make this text heavy and will let the photos tell…

What are You Thankful for Today?

We had the most wonderful time when we visited Pepper, Mark and A at their beautiful cozy home. We were only supposed to pick up the little something Pepper made for me but we ended up chatting and eating for what felt like hours. It is refreshing to spend an afternoon with another couple for a change. Franco was not his usual KJ self because he and Mark had been friends even before we got married. It was also great to not mind the kids who were busy playing.

Here is the ballerina doctor taking Aki’s blood pressure. Hehe. After that short doctor doctor game, they spent the rest of the afternoon pillow fighting.

Here is the little gift from Pepper.

Thoughtful Early Christmas Gifts

Speaking of thoughtful, I want to share this forgotten draft about the first Christmas gifts that I received last year.

Faye got me Christmas movies for our Christmas movie marathon tradition.

One reason why I don’t buy stuff online is because I don’t have time to go to the bank to pay. Franco’s paranoia has rubbed on me. Paying online scares me.  Some months ago, I bought this jar in an online garage sale. Will share what I did with it in a separate post. Unfortunately, I was so busy that I kept delaying going to the bank to place my payment until I forgot out the jar. I think the seller (Hello Bonnie! Please don’t hate me.) put the jar up for sale again and sweet Rachel bought it for me because she knew I was not able to do so.

My suki at our Sunday parish market gave me a little something last Christmas to show their appreciation for my patronage. So sweet!

DIY Ice Cream Sundae Bar

We had the most fun beating the heat a couple of weekends ago mega thanks to our mini ice cream party. Aki and I left the house early to buy toppings. On our way to the grocery, we stopped by at each of his friends’ house and invited Justin, Gabbie and Vincent for an afternoon of ice cream at our house.  The kids were definitely psyched! I told them to be at our place at 3:30PM. They arrived at 2:30!

The secret to a fun ice cream party are toppings topping toppings! I was planning to make hot chocolate fudge but since the guests came early and were eager to start, I decided to forego the fudge.

The toppings: graham crackers, crushed Hi-ro cookies, white chocolate Knick Knacks (a surprise hit with the kids), Chocnut, chocolate chip cookies and Nips.

Don’t you just love the colors? My Tita Ming got these colorful Ikea bowls, plates, cups and utensils for only 1 pound per pack.

I could have done a much better job at taking pre-party photos but the kids just could not stop eating my toppings.

For the ice cream, we got 2 flavors – chocolate and cookies & cream.

Neighborhood Friends

When you were still a kid, did you spend countless hours playing in the street with your neighborhood friends? Unfortunately for me, I did not have that kind of childhood memories.  I was never a batang kalye. I was not allowed to play in the streets. My lola told us that if my sister and I played with boys, we will grow penis in our foreheads. Crazy!!  Looking back, my childhood was not so bad but it would had definitely been more memorable if I had friends outside our family. More on my childhood here.

Fast forward to 2014. We used to always hear that parents want their children to have the things and experiences that they growing up did not have. I am no exception. I want Aki to grow up with lots of friends in our village.  One afternoon as I was walking home, I noticed a group of kids running around. I invited them to our house to play with Aki and his beyblades. And the rest including my quest to be the coolest mom on the block is history.

We now have kids hanging out in our living room and garden all the time. How fun it really is. I love how Aki now has little role models. Aki’s friends teach him things like how to play gentle esp during sword fights, how to share and how to calmly wait for your turn and how losing is okay. Aki wants to be 6 years old because I told him, after interviewing the kids on how old were they when they were allowed to play in the streets, that he needs to turn 6 first before he can play outside unsupervised.

I too am adjusting to the role. When the kids come to the house before they have eaten breakfast, do I ask them to go home first? Or should I offer our food to them? My concern is that if they eat in our house, their parents might blame me if they don’t eat during meal times with their respective families. When it is already dark, do I ask the kids to go home? I would be worried if Aki is still out and it is past 6PM. But then again, my boy is only 4 years old. I might feel differently when Aki’s already 7 or 8 years old, which is the age of his friends. And what do I do if they bring their toy guns which Aki is not allowed to play with? Or what should I do if they start fighting?

Oh well, let’s wait and see and enjoy watching them have fun.

Here are some of the pictures from the long weekend last January

Playdate with my Favorite Bloggers

Morning! Can you believe it is Friday already? Long lazy weekend, here we come! Oh, I just realized that I don’t have the license to be lazy since Ate Doring is on vacation leave. The kapitan in her barangay sent money so she can go home and vote…. I know what you are thinking. .. oh well, who am I to stop her from her civic duty to exercise her to right to vote?

One thing I am so looking forward to this weekend is our playdate with Mapi and Ryken. So excited!

Speaking of playdates, looking at the blog posts of my mommy blogger friends reminded me of the long overdue post on our playdate last February. Or was this around March? Hehe. I missed the last get together, the baby shower for Aimee so I will definitely make sure that I will be present present present come our Christmas party.  It is so nice to see how the group has grown. Originally, which was 2 years ago, it was just me, Em, Dew, Maggie and Marsy. Now,  the circle is bigger with Sha, Aimee, Pepper, Faye, Erlaine, Peachy and our latest victims recruits Vivian and Ging. I hope I did not miss anyone. Hopefully this December, Sieggy, Lanie, Rachel, and Kaye will be able to join for the first time.

Anyhoot hoot, here are some of my favorite pictures from our Feb playdate at the Ayala Triangle Park. Special thanks to Dom of Studio 2916 for our gorgeous portraits

Here is Aimee and Tala

This is really nice, noh?

Pepper and A with Mark.

What I love about this shot is the joy and pride in the parents faces as they look at their pretty daughter.

Erl and Kelsea. I want a shot like these! I will bring Aki’s bike next time

Pizza Playdate with Coco and Rachel

Last June,we had an impromptu pizza playdate with Rachel and Coco. It was our first time to have a playdate since we went to the Fun Farm August last year. We had been planning playdates but for the longest time but something always comes up. Hopefully, the one planned for this month, will push thru.

For our pizza making activity, I prepared flour tortillas, pizza sauce, ham, pepperoni, quickmelt cheese and chopped homemade burger.

Coco and Aki after making their pizza.

I cooked the pizza in the oven at 180 degrees and ta-daaaaa!

If I had more time, maybe we could have  tried making our own pizza dough. Mixing and kneading are always fun. The store-bought tortillas are not so bad either. They are hassle free and crisp up nicely after 15 minutes in the oven.

These are the best pictures that I got of the ever makulit and malikot boys. I know these are terrible photos but these are the best from the bunch. What else do you expect when you have 2 energizer bunnies?

From Cebu, With Love

Two of the things that I am thankful for everyday are the friends that I gained and surprises that I get because of this blog. Last Wednesday, I was surprised to receive a package all the way from Cebu. The package came from Juvy of the Mommyjuvs blog. We have been exchanging comments on each others blog for some time now. And when I read in Leah’s blog that Juvvy and Liam were in town recently, I was secretly hoping she’d invite me to a playdate. Haha

Anyhoo, Aki and I of course were beyond thrilled when we saw the package.

I mentioned in this post that I really want to add more Dr Seuss to our book collection. Now, we are happy owners of these fun books.
