Akisms

Do your kids love posing for the camera? Don’t you just love how they never run out of genuine smiles? Lucky you! I love my son to bits but I can’t help but wish that he is more photogenic. His candid smile makes my heart leap but his 1-2-3 smiiiiiile makes it clear that modelling is not for him. Haha. And don’t even dare ask him for retakes. Am not surprised. Franco is just like that, maybe even worse. During our last photoshoot, my 33-year old first born almost had a tantrum! Continue reading

Update: Top 100 Children’s Books of All Time Collection

Whaaaat?!!! I only added 3 books to my top 100 children’s books of all time collection (top 110 actually since the list has 10 runner-up books) in the last 6 months?!! In my defence, I really should not be buying anymore books for now. Aki is now reading on his own and loves reading books that are familiar. And when he likes a book, he reads it over and over and over and over.  Plus, I am now collecting New York Bestsellers and Caldecott Award winning books.

For my easy reference, these are the 24 books that I still need to hunt for.

ABC3D: 89
Blueberries for Sal: Robert McCloskey 27
Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!: Mo Willems 18
Fancy Nancy: Jane O’Connor 26
Flotsam: T David Wiesner 28
Gallop!: A Scanimation Picture Book: Rufus Butler Seder 65
Go, Dog, Go!: P.D. Eastman 22

DIY 2014 Christmas Ornaments

Finally, a artsy-fartsy crafty post! Miss DD, this is for you.

I made a Christmas bucket list. I am proud to say that we were able to do everything on that list except one. The kids in our village don’t go carolling. I tried forming a carolling group but none of Aki’s friends was interested in joining. Double hmmmp! I already had a plan. I will talk to the parents’ of the kids to ask their permission. Franco and I will serve as chaperones and musical coaches. Hay hay. Maybe this year.

Here’s my list

Make a snow globe
Wear polkadot shorts for New Years Eve
Have an advent calendar
Wrap gifts creatively
Christmas movie marathon
Write birthday greeting for Baby Jesus
Send Christmas cards via snail mail
Watch Santa’s video message
Listen to Christmas songs
Drink hot choco in our Christmas mugs
visit an orphanage
Carolling around the village
Make holiday ornaments

The last item on my list was also the last that I was able to cross out. Every year, we have new ornaments. For 2014, I wanted to DIY not one, not 2 but 4!  Continue reading
