Memoirs of a Mummy

Nocturnal Treasure Hunt

letters on our second night
first night: flashlight, tube for the sticks, glow-less glow-in-the-dark sticks

Since last month, Aki does not like sleeping in the dark. Whereas before, as soon as I turned off the light, he would roll over like a puppy and sleep, now, when he wakes up in the middle of the night, he shouts ” Ta! Ta!” (Light! Light!).

I devised this fun, easy-to-prepare game so he will grow more confident in the dark. We named this, the flashlight game. All we need are a flashlight, similar objects to collect and a container/basket. I just scatter the treasures around the room. I make sure that the objects are within his reach and that the floor is free from anything that we might trip on. The room is already dark when we enter. I always put a treasure right by the door so Aki immediately knows what we are looking for. Aki holds the flashlight as I hold the basket. Everytime he finds a treasure, he puts them inside the basket. At the end of the game, we turn on the lights and inspect our treasure.

How I wish we can take pictures while we are playing this game. The expression on Aki’s face everytime he finds a treasure is priceless!
