Mrs. Monologues

Derek from Dakota

WARNING: This is a mushy post.

Last Saturday, I watched MYXX for the first time in months. You see, I am not a music person. I listen to songs without closely listening to the lyrics. Aki woke up earlier than usual on that day. We always wake up between 5:30-6AM on weekdays but last Saturday, Aki’s body clock had different plans. He woke up quarter before 5AM, energetic and ready to party! I was still groggy and not at all in the mood for rough play. Thank God for MYXX TV  in Channel 23.

Aki does not know how to dance yet but when he listens to music that he likes, he shakes his head left and right like crazy. And that is what he did when Let me See you Wiggle it, Just a Little Bit was playing. Seeing him party on his own baby way was enough to wake me up. I was having blast seeing my son have a blast.

Then a Ricky Martin..

Then a Gloria Estefan.

Then this New Radicals song  that has been playing on my head over and over for a week now…

90 miles outside Chicago
Can’t stop driving
I don’t know why
So many questions
I need an answer
Two years later
You’re still on my mind

Whatever happened to Amelia Earhart?
Who holds the stars up in the sky?
Is true love just once in a lifetime?
Did the captain of the Titanic cry?

Someday we’ll know if love can move a mountain
Someday we’ll know why the sky is blue
Someday we’ll know why I wasn’t meant for you

Does anybody know the way to Atlantis
Or what the wind says when she cries?
I’m speeding by the place that I met you
For the 97th time tonight

Someday we’ll know if love can move a mountain
Someday we’ll know why the sky is blue
Someday we’ll know why I wasn’t meant for you
Someday we’ll know why Samson loved Delilah
One day I’ll go dancing on the moon
Someday you’ll know that I was the one for you

I bought a ticket to the end of the rainbow
I watched the stars crash in the sea
If I could ask God just one question
Why aren’t you here with me tonight?

Someday we’ll know if love can move a mountain
Someday we’ll know why the sky is blue
Someday we’ll know why I wasn’t meant for you
Someday we’ll know why Samson loved Delilah
One day I’ll go dancing on the moon
Someday you’ll know that I was the One for you

I love this song. I had a New Radicals cassette tape when I was in high school but it was only at that moment when I really got to appreciate the lyrics.

It is sad love song, yes, but it reminds me so much of how fortunate I am to be with the man I am with. When I was younger, I remember sitting in my dorm bed, wondering what was the man I am supposed to be with, doing. While I was working on my Uno for Math 100, he could be trying juts for the first time. Silly teeny bopper in me, I gave him a name: Derek from Dakota.

I am not a believer of destiny but I believe that of the billions of people on earth, there should at least be one person out there who can make me truly happy and make me feel truly loved. The question was where is he. Will we ever meet? Have we met back in nursery and competitive yayas sabotaged the possiblity of being together?

And I know that a lot of people are wondering if they will ever experience a love so real and so crazy. I am just happy I did. Of the billions of people on earth, I was able to meet and keep my Derek from Dakota.
